# Languages

Set languages you use in the system.

The **Languages** section allows you to manage the data or content languages in the Emporix e-commerce solution.\
While Emporix supports only English and German as the user interface languages, you can use as many data languages as you need for the data stored in the system.

A user's preferred language, stored on their Identity and Access Management (IAM) profile, selects one of these data languages at sign-in when that language is available. If it is not available, the data language selector keeps the language last selected in the browser. If no language was previously selected, it uses the tenant's default language set here.

{% hint style="info" %}
To learn more about preferred language, see [Preferred language](/user-guides/management-dashboard/administration/usersandgroups.md#preferred-language).

## Adding a data language

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open Languages

Go to **Settings** -> **Languages** and choose **Add Language**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select a language

Find the language to add by filtering the list of available languages by code or name, then select it.

{% hint style="info" %}
Language codes in the list follow the [IETF BCP-47 standard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IETF_language_tag). You can filter by a two-letter code such as `en`, or a regional variant such as `fr-ca`.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Confirm the language

Confirm with **Add Language**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Setting the default language

The data in the default language always appears first in any localized field.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open Languages

Go to **Settings** -> **Languages**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the default language

Select the tick under the **Default** column for the language you want to set as default.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The default language changes to the one you chose.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://developer.emporix.io/user-guides/management-dashboard/settings/languages.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
